Jenike & Johanson has an exciting summer internship opportunity for a student studying environmental science with a focus on hydrogeology. This will be a full-time 40 hour position from May – August in our Tyngsboro, MA office location. This position will have the opportunity to work alongside senior engineers and laboratory technicians to develop new testing capabilities and support real-world projects related to water movement in bulk material storage systems while developing technical and business skills needed for a successful career.
Responsibilities:
Students will be assisting our lab team with project related tasks including:
- Preparing test plans for ongoing projects in our offices related to water seepage and drainage in stockpiles
- Coordinating with lab manager execution of new tests with the support of lab technicians
- Testing hydraulic properties of bulk material necessary for the characterization and computational modeling of unsaturated flow in porous media and slope stability analysis
- Assisting with writing global SOP documents of new testing equipment to support deployment of the hydraulic tests’ methodology to other Jenike labs around the globe
- Preparation of technical report templates related to hydraulic properties tests
- Evaluation of test data and preparation of test reports
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program in Environmental Science or Engineering
- Students with 2 years of coursework completed are preferred
- Knowledge of hydraulic properties tests relevant to flow in unsaturated porous media is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to effectively work in a team environment
