Welcome to the Behavioral Health and Human Services Career Path!

The Behavioral Health & Human Services cluster is dedicated to caring for and improving the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities. These professions address social, emotional, psychological, and physical needs, requiring empathy, resilience, and excellent interpersonal skills. This is the pathway for students who want to directly support, advocate for, and empower others toward mental wellness and stability.

Careers in Behavioral Health and Human Services require empathy, resilience, strong communication skills, and a commitment to ethical practice. Professionals in this sector work directly with vulnerable populations in diverse settings, including mental health clinics, schools, hospitals, governmental agencies, and non-profit organizations. Success is driven by the capacity to conduct effective assessments, develop individualized treatment or service plans, and collaborate across various disciplines, such as healthcare, criminal justice, and education. The core mission is to empower individuals to achieve optimal functioning and quality of life.

Career Pathways:

  • Clinical Counseling & Therapy (Requires Graduate Study): Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), School Counselor/Adjustment Counselor, Substance Abuse and Behavioral Disorder Counselor, Clinical Psychologist, Art/Music Therapist.
  • Social & Community Services: Case Manager, Child Protective Services Worker, Victim Advocate/Support Specialist, Human Services Worker, Disability Support Specialist, Community Health Worker, Elder Care Coordinator.
  • Rehabilitation & Justice: Probation/Parole Officer, Rehabilitation Counselor, Crisis Intervention Specialist, Youth Outreach Worker.
  • Administration & Advocacy: Non-Profit/Social Service Agency Director, Program Development Specialist, Volunteer Coordinator, Policy Analyst (focusing on health and welfare).
